FINALS DAY 2008
FINALS DAY 2008
In keeping with the rest of the "summer", the rain made an appearance but could not prevent the completion of an excellent day's tennis! With 17 finals to watch, there was plenty of action to entertain all the hardy spectators who were rewarded with an excellent barbecue at the end of the day. Thanks very much to our tournament committee (Guy, John, Philippa & Mike) for arranging the day, Gill & Philippa for organising the catering and Liz, Ken & Gill for their hard work cooking all the burgers and sausages (please see pictures below!)

Yes - this is Riverside!! View from the bank.

Coffee & tennis.

Some preferred something stronger - in fairness
this may have been later in the day!

Bill (participating in his first Riverside final)played well to beat Keith who was going for his 17th singles' win in 18 years!

Bronwen became ladies' singles champion with a two set win over Kristie who produced some great shots in her first adult final.

Miles beat Henry in an excellent mini-orange boys' final.

Edward narrowly beat Joseph in our mini-red boys' final.

Rebecca made it a family double by winning a great match with Holly.
Gilly & Carolyn won a very enjoyable match against Kay & Bronwen.

This was a great final with Nick and Graham finally overcoming Keith and Guy 7-6, 6-4.
Spectators in front of the club house.

Alex beat Luke in an excellent, well-contested match 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to win the boys' 14 & Under final.

In a very high quality boys' 12 & under final, William edged out Michael 6-2, 7-5.

The mixed title went to Kay & Keith who defeated Nick & Carolyn 6-1, 7-6.

The men's veterans match couldn't have been much closer with Graham and James finally winning 7-5, 3-6, 7-6.

Tom recovered from a first set loss to retain his 18 & Under singles with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Alex.
Abigail was impressive in her two set win over Kendra who was playing in her first final.

* We seem to have missed out on a photo of the mixed veterans' finalists. This was a tremendous battle finally won by Graham & Trish 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 over Tony & Cathy. If anyone has a photo of this, please could they email it to me so that I can add it to this page?

The popular mixed drawn competition was won by Guy and Kristie who beat Graham and Carolyn 6-4, 6-3.
The ladies veterans final was finished under floodlights with Trish and Philippa beating Cathy and Liz 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
