At 11am precisely, the first finalists emerged from "the tunnel", were introduced to the crowd who cheered them onto the courts! The only things missing were the flashing lights and the music - must do better next year Guy!!

Michael and Mihaly were the first on Court 1 to battle it out for the Men's singles title. The match was hugely entertaining with some tremendous rallies but the scoreline in Michael's favour of 6-4, 7-6 must have left Mihaly wondering whether he had taught Michael just a little too much about singles' tactics!

Meanwhile the Ladies Vets final was being fought out on Court 1 with the holders Philippa and Tricia taking on Sal and Liz only newly qualifying for this event! The newcomers triumphed with some very good tennis taking the match in two straight sets and were awarded their trophy by Keith just in time for some absolutely amazing cakes and superb tea and coffee served by the Social Committee!

The Court 2 crowd was treated to some lovely shot-making as James & Gill retained their title against Anne and Bill in a repeat of last year's final.

After an excellent lunch of paninis, the tennis recommenced.

On the show court, Mihaly and Michael took on Nick & Graham (who have won this title together 9 times!) This was a fantastic match packed with exciting rallies and the crowd were delighted when it went to 3 sets with Michael and Mihaly eventually winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.

Next door, the defending champions, Gill and Carolyn, were just managing to keep the strong challenge of Karina and Liz at bay, winning a close match 6-3, 6-4. On Court 4 Abigail beat Hannah in the girls under 18 singles final winning her first title of the day.

Our four mini-red contestants impressed the audience with their play in their round-robin competition which was won by Josh with Charlie as the runner-up. George and Sophie also took part and performed well!

Not great weather for the crowd but their support was much appreciated!

After another break for coffee and cakes, the next matches were cheered onto court!

The mixed doubles final was a great match which led to Michael's third win of the day as he combined with Karina to beat his Mum & Nick 6-3, 6-4. The mixed mini-green final took place on Court 4 and saw Charlie retain his title against Annabel.

The final round of matches were announced at about 5pm and were all very close matches. The ladies' singles final featured Liz (in her third final of the day) playing against defending champion Kristie. Kristie just claimed the first, marathon set on a deciding tie-break and then took the next 6-2. The other singles match was the dreaded 14 & Under play-off between Michael and Jamie; luckily this went off reasonably peacefully although Jamie was disappointed with the final score of 6-3 6-3.

Our luck run out in the other two matches which were unfortunately completed under floodlights in the rain! The Mens vets was the normal noisy affair which was eventually won by James and Dermot. The improvers doubles was also finished in the dark with Bob and Kim finally overcoming the resistance of Dave & Antonia.
